Male gaze

22 seconds into the video we see Britney Spears in a very sexual dress sense in a small school uniform. She breaks the forth wall by constantly looking at the camera. With a mid angle shot.

Her dress style gives the idea of a stripper almost because of the small revealing clothing. This beginning part of the video shows that the male gaze from behind the camera as she is fully objectified. Also throughout the video it constantly uses long shot to show the full body of her to basically show her body off in a way. Again one minute in she starts looking down the camera breaking the forth wall in a sultry type look so this is suggesting a sexual nature to the video by her looking.

One minute twenty five seconds into the video she is suddenly outside, she is dressed in a different way but dancing in a way she is dancing with boys still gives off connotations of sex also she is still dancing in a provocative way. In this section it constantly uses the long shot to show her dancing and her full body. Also it still uses the looking down the camera shots to break the forth wall and again gives a sultry look. Also throughout the video they use a hazing camera effect and this gives the
idea that she may be a god or better than normal people.

In the photo above it shows a high angle and gives off that she may be submissive and giving the sultry look, this is used throughout the video. Again this connotes a need for male attention or a need for a male to help her. This is because the way she is basically giving puppy dog eyes for the attention. I think that this music video was made for males, however the song is about her getting over a relationship so the way she is dancing to try and attract males may be more towards the song lyrics, but also males gaze from behind the camera.

I think that this music video is degrading, this is because she is constantly dressed in small tight clothing as if purposely trying to attract male attention. Also that she looks down the camera as if she is pleading for this attention. Furthermore I think that this video is even more degrading because at the time of it being made Britney Spears was only 17, so with the added connotations of sex and want for attention makes it more degrading.
