Mise-En-Scene of Mad Men

Setting/ location

Due to the desks and way people are dressed, also how the woman in blue is talking about time cards I think that this is an office or business setting also due to the size of it I believe it may be a large business.

Colours

The ginger woman is dressed in blue and this may give sense that she has a dark personality and isn't a very nice lady, backed up by her actions towards the other women. Also Scarlet has bright red lipstick on, this connotes a sexual nature of this woman she is also dressed in red so the director may be trying to give of this woman sexual behaviour through her dress.

Props/ objects

The fact that Scarlet is using a telephone and a type writer also that the woman in blue is holding 'punch cards' to know what hours people have worked shows that they're in a workplace setting. Also that they have punch cards they can't fully keep track of everybody's hours so it may be a large company.

Hairstyle

Both of the women have the same hairstyle of the hair being up, so this may be a company standard showing that they may be of the same level in the hierarchy as they all have to have the same hairstyle whereas people higher up may get to have different more relaxed hairstyles.

Costume (clothes)

Both of the women are dressed in very tight dresses most likely to flaunt their sexuality and also they are both wearing red lipstick which connotes sexual nature about them so the lip stick and tight dresses may both add to how the women act and flaunt who they are. Also both women are wearing earrings but only the woman in blue is wearing a necklace and her earrings look like they have more design wheres as the other woman are plain and boring so this may mean that the woman in blue with the more exciting nicer earrings may be in a higher position in the workplace to her.

Make-up

Both the woman have similar make up that they have red makeup which displaces on their cheeks and also red lipstick again flaunting their sexuality also they are both wearing eye liner to draw attention to their eyes and make them overall look more attractive and feel more attractive to males or just to wear it for themselves.

Posture/ gesture

Both the woman are stood straight upright so they remain to have good posture throughout the clip.

Position in frame

Throughout the clip the women who are the main characters in this situation are always in the middle of the frame through out the clip, apart from at the end when the woman in blue is talking to the woman in green they are both stood at the edge of the frame to show their conversation. However the camera mainly focuses on the woman in blue highlighting her importance compared to the other woman.

Choice of actor

I think that the choice of actor for the woman in blue was good as she can clearly go into a snappy or angry tone to the other woman to show that she is angry with her, also that in the clip it shows it being in at least the 1960s so the way she is asserting herself to a powerful role shows that she is trying to become equal to males and doesn't need to be told what she needs to do.

Lighting

The light throughout the clip is trying to make it look natural as if coming through a window and this helps the clip as it is trying to simulate reality. Also that it shows the windows in the clip to try and make out that the light is coming through the windows.
